Lekker bezig / Going good.

Vandaag ben ik een nieuw breiproject gestart. Ik ben echt helemaal verslaafd aan kantbreien, maar ik doe er eeuwen over om een project af te maken. Mijn laatste project heb ik gewoon jaren over gedaan. Het resultaat is echter prachtig. Ach ja, misschien moet ik ook eens wat minder projecten tegelijk op de pennen hebben staan. Maar ja, ik krijg ook zoveel ideeen soms.

Today I started a new Knitting project. I am totally hooked on laceknitting, however it takes me centuries to finish a project. My last project took me a couple of years, but the result is stunning. Perhaps it would be a good idea to work on less projects at the same time. But there are so many idea's in my head.

Mijn laatste project was de "triangels" sjaal. Het patroon is een eigen ontwerp. Ik moet het nog uitwerken, maar ik ben van plan om het beschikbaar te maken voor jullie. Hieronder alvast een voorproefje. Ik heb het nog niet opgespannen, vooral eigenlijk uit luiigheid,

Gisteren ben ik met mijn moeder gezellig wezen shoppen in Leiden. Natuurlijk kon ik het niet laten om ook even langs mijn favoriete garenwinkeltje te wandelen. De shuttlebus die je vanaf de parkeerplaats buiten het dorp naar het centrum brengt stopt er zo ongeveer voor de deur, tja dan is het toch wel heel lastig om niet even binnen te piepen.

Yesterday I went shopping with my mom in Leiden. Ofcourse I could not pass my favorite yarn store without popping in for a peek. The shuttlebus bringing you from the parking lot to the commercial area stops almost in front of the door. So yeah, it is really difficult not to.

Een paar dagen geleden had ik al een mooi patroon gevonden op Ravelry. De Iris sjaal. Eigenlijk was ik van plan om nog even te wachten omdat ik al zoveel dingen op stapel heb staan maar ja... dat hele gevaarlijke winkeltje he...

A couple of days ago I had already found a nice pattern on Ravelry.com. The Iris scarf. To be honest I had planned to wait for a while because I still have so many project to finish but... Lets just say that it is a really dangerous store for a yarn addict.

Dat winkeltje is een van de weinige winkels die ik ken waar ik aan Colinette Parisienne kan komen. Ik vind dit garen werkelijk fantastisch. De kleuren zijn schitterend en het garen werkt heel fijn. Colinette heeft prachtige kleurcombinatie's en ik hoopte daar mijn meest favoriete combinatie tegen te zullen komen. Deze hadden ze helaas niet, echter had ik zoveel keuze aan andere kleuren dat dat niet uit maakte.

This store is one of the few shops I know where I can buy Colinette Parisienne yarn. I think this yarn is amazing. The colors are increadible and the yarn works like a dream. Colinette has some beautiful colorcombinations and I really hoped to find my favorite. Unfortunatly that one was not in stock. However I had so much choice this really did not matter.

Een beetje teveel keuze zelfs als je het mij vraagt. Uiteindelijk een mooi kleurtje garen uitgekozen, bleek dat daar nog maar 1 streng van in voorraad was. GRRRRRRRR. dat heb ik weer. Hoewel ik de overige kleuren heel mooi vond, stak dit garen er toch wel heel erg boven uit. Ik keek mijn moeder aan en we besloten de boel even te laten bezinken en eerst lekker verder te shoppen.

A little to much choice if you ask me. Finally I picked a colorway that I liked, it turns out that they only have 1 skein left. GRRRRRRR. That my luck. Although the other colors are gorgeous, this colorway was definately the best. So I turned to my mom and we decided to give it a rest and go shopping first.

Ik heb heel erg lopen twijfelen of ik wel of geen garen zou kopen. Vooral omdat ik niet kon kiezen. Uiteindelijk besloten we toch nog 1 keer te gaan kijken. Om de kijken welke kleur het beste voor me werkt heb ik mijn jas uitgedaan en de strengen bij mijn gezicht gehouden. Ja toen was het niet moeilijk meer. De Honolulu stak er naast de Jay (waar maar 1 streng van was) toch wel gemakkelijk bovenuit. Drie strengen gekocht en lekker naar huis gegaan.

I have been doubting whether or not to buy some yarn. Mostly because I could not make a choice. Finally we decided to have one last look. To see what color works best on me I put my coat and shawl of and held the strands close to my face. That made it much easier to choose because one colorway, apart of the Jay colorway (where there was only one strand left) stood out. I bought three stands and went home.

Thuis aangekomen ben ik gelijk de strengen gaan opwikkelen in een bal zodat ik vandaag lekker kon beginnen met breien. Ik heb 80 steken opgezet, in plaats van 86 zoals in het patroon beschreven stond en ben nu fijn begonnen. Tja en nu maar afwachten hoe lang ik hierover ga doen. Ik hou jullie op de hoogte

 

Once we got home I started making a ball of the three strands that i just bought so that I could commence knitting today. I cast on 80 stitches in stead of 86 as the pattern says and the first few centimeters are a fact. Now just see how long this projects going to take me. I will update you every now and then.

Even wat anders / and now for something different

Hoera, gisteren heb ik een nieuw haakpatroontje gekocht en ik ben er vandaag vol enthousiasme aan begonnen. Ik heb via etsy (mijn favoriete online shop) een patroontje gekocht van JJ the Fire Dragon van DeliciousCrochet. 

Hurray, yesterday I bought myself a new Crochet pattern and I started  full of enthusiasm.  Through etsy (my favorite online shop) I bought the pattern of JJ the Fire Dragon by  DelicousCrochet.

Eigenlijk was ik van plan om JJ van katoen te maken, maar zodra ik het patroon binnen had kwam ik al gauw tot de conclusie dat het een stuk goedkoper was om voor acryl te gaan. Nu zou ik mezelf niet zijn als ik niet heel eigenwijs andere kleuren zou gebruiken als de ontwerpster gebruikt heeft. Mijn JJ word dus Blauw, met een lichtblauwe buik en roze details. In plaats van rood met een oranje buik en gele details. 

Originally I planned on crocheting JJ in cotton, but as soon as I received the pattern, I came to the conclusion that it would be a lot cheaper to go with acrylic yarn. Now I would not be me if I would use different colors than the designer of the pattern did. My JJ will be blue with a light blue belly and pink details. Instead of red with an orange belly and yellow details

Het is nog een heel werk om hem af te maken maar het begin is er. Ik ben alleen bang dat ik niet voldoende garen heb. Gelukkig is Annell, het merk garen wat ik gebruik vrij consequent met hun kleuren, dus mocht ik toch nog een bolletje bij moeten kopen dan zal er niet of nauwelijks kleurverschil tussen zitten.

It will be a lot of work to finish the project, but there is a start. I just hope I have enough yarn. Luckily Annell, the brand of yarn I am using is quite consistent in their colors, so if I have to buy myself an extra ball of yarn, there wil be virtually no color difference.

Dit betreft een gekocht patroon, het eindresultaat is dan ook voor mijn eigen collectie.

Since this is a bought pattern, the finished piece is for my own collection.

Werk in uitvoering / Work in progress

Na vorige week ziek te zijn geweest heb ik vandaag eindelijk mijn vaas gekocht en ben ik begonnen aan mijn project. Ik ben echt zo benieuwd hoe het er uit gaat zien. Eerst ben ik gaan zoeken op internet naar een bruikbare afbeelding. Deze heb ik uitgeprint en aan de binnenkant van de vaas geplakt. De afbeelding heb ik

hier vandaan.

After being ill last week, I finally bought my vase and I have started my project. I am psyched to see how it turnes out. First I started surfing the internet for a usable image. I printed it, and I sticked it to the inside of the vase. Click on "hier" to go to the original image.

Toen ik helemaal tevreden was over de plaatsing van de afbeelding (en nadat ik alles klaar had gezet), wilde ik gaan graveren. Helaas toen ik mijn veiligheidsbril wilde opzetten kon ik die niet vinden. Ik heb nog even gezocht, maar ik heb hem duidelijk misplaatst. Gelukkig kon ik wel mijn oude veiligheidsbril vinden dus heb ik die maar gebruikt. Hij was nog niet op, maar ik vind hem niet fijn zitten. Vandaar dat ik een nieuwe heb aangeschaft.

When I was completely satisfied with the location of the image (and after clearing my workspace) I decided to start engraving. Unfortunately when I wanted to put on my safety goggles, I could not find them. I did search for a while, but I clearly misplaced them. Luckily I could find my old pair so I used that pair instead. It was not yet ready for replacement at the time but since I did not like how it fit me, I bought a new pair.

Uiteindelijk ben ik begonnen met het graveren. Na ruim 1,5 uur bezig te zijn geweest heb ik eigenlijk nog maar een heel klein stukje af. Dit project gaat me een hoop tijd kosten om af te maken. Ik heb een foto'tje toegevoegd van een detail van de afbeelding. Ik hoop dat het weergeeft hoe ontzettend gedetailleerd het plaatje is.

Finally I started engraving. After working more than 1,5 hours, I have only finished a small portion of the whole image. This project is going to cost me a lot of time to finish. I have added detailed foto of the image. I hope it reflects how very detailed the complete image is.

Dit is natuurlijk maar een klein detail, maar dit is wel representatief voor een groot gedeelte van de afbeelding.

Of course this is only a small detail, but I think it represents the level of detail for most of the complete image. 

Nog geen vaas gevonden / Not yet found a vase.

Vandaag was mijn schoonmaakdagje. Ik heb de hele keuken opnieuw ingericht. Mijn man was hier helaas wat minder blij mee. Toen hij een pak koekjes wilde pakken vond hij de tafellakens. Ach ja... Hij went er vanzelf wel aan. Alles blinkt weer in huis en vanavond kruip ik in een lekker schoon bedje. 

Aangezien ik ongeveer halverwege de middag klaar was, besloot ik mezelf te belonen en op zoek te gaan naar een vaas voor mijn Ganesha project. Tja dat viel dus even tegen. Omdat de afbeelding die ik wil graveren alleen mooi uit komt als ik deze minimaal op een A4 papiertje print, heb ik een grote vaas nodig. Bij de Blokker kwam ik een vaas tegen die ik wel mooi vond. Gelukkig was ik wel zo slim om even met een ander A4tje te testen of de vaas groot genoeg was. Dit bleek niet zo te zijn. 

Ik heb wel een andere vaas gezien die ik mooi vind en die wel groot genoeg is. Helaas had ik net niet genoeg geld meegenomen om die te kunnen kopen (en natuurlijk geen pinpas bij me). Dus die ga ik later deze week halen.

Today was my housecleaning day. I have reorganised the kitchen. My husband was not so happy with this. When he was opening the cupboard to get some cookies he found a pile of tablecloth. Oh well... He will get used to it soon enough. The whole house sparkles and this evening I will crawl into a nice clean bed.

Since I finished about somewhere mid afternoon, I decided to reward myself and go to the stores to find myself a vase for my Ganesh Project. It turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Because the image I intend to engrave looks best on A4 paper of bigger, I need a really big vase. At the Blokker I found a vase I liked. Luckily I was smart enough to test with another A4 paper if the vase was big enough. It was not.

I have seen another vase that I liked and that is big enough, but unfortunatly I did not bring enough money to buy it (and of course I did not bring my PINcard). So I am going back next week and buy it..

Lucky stars vouwen / Folding lucky paper stars

Omdat ik nog niet de kans heb gehad om naar de winkel te gaan en een vaas te kopen voor mijn Ganesha project, heb ik de afgelopen paar dagen Lucky Stars gevouwen.

Uhhhh wat zijn dat Lucky Stars???

Because I have not yet had the chance to go to the store to buy a vase for my Ganesha Project, I have been folding Lucky stars the last couple of days 

Errrr  what are Lucky stars???

Lucky Stars zijn schattige kleine papieren sterretjes, gevouwen van een strookje papier. Het vouwen van deze sterretjes komt van oorsprong uit de Japanse Origami Cultuur. Als je ze cadeau geeft, brengen ze de ontvanger geluk. Ook het aantal sterretjes wat je geeft kan een speciale betekenis hebben.

Lucky Stars are cute little paper stars, folded from a strip of paper. The art of folding these stars, originates in the Japanese Origami culture. When you give them away, they will bring good fortune to the receiver. Also the amount of stars that you give may have a special meaning

De strookjes kun je na wat googelen in verschillende webshops kopen, maar je kan natuurlijk ook zelf maken. De verhouding is ongeveer 1:20. Oude tijdschriften kun je uitstekend omtoveren tot hele potten Lucky stars, of je kunt op internet op zoek gaan naar een mooie printable. Wel is het slim om op de dikte van je papier te letten. Te dun vouwt niet fijn omdat het makkelijk breekt, maar te dik is ook niet prettig omdat het dan heel lastig is om de zijkantjes van je vijfhoek in te drukken.

De strips can be bought in several webshops, just google to find some in your own country. Ofcourse you can also try to make them yourself. The ratio is approximately 1:20. Old magazine's can easily be transformed into whole jars of Lucky stars, or you can go on the internet to find yourself a nice printable. Please make sure the paper you are using is neither too thin, nor too thick. Thin paper easily breaks and makes folding more of a challenge, however paper that is too thick  makes it difficult to form the star points

Ik had nog ergens een mooi glazen bonbonniere/snoeppotje staan waar ik eigenlijk niet goed van wist wat ik er mee wilde. Een snoeppot werkt bij ons nu eenmaal niet omdat er hier in huis een of ander snoepjesmonster woont wat alle snoepjes laat verdwijnen. Ik vraag me af wie het snoepmonster is (nee ik ben het niet, ik ben niet zo'n zoetekauw, maar zet geen kaasblokjes binnen handbereik)  Nu staat de snoeppot te pronken op onze keukentafel gevuld met schattige Lucky Stars. Heel wat beter voor de lijn en zeker net zo gezellig

Now I had a nice glass bonboniere/candydish somewhere, for which I had no idea what to do with it. A candyjar is useless here since we there is living a candymonster here that makes all the candy disappear. I really wonder who the candymonster is (no it is not me, I am not a sweettooth, however don't put cheesecubes within armsreach). Now the candyjar sits proudly on the kitchentable, filled with those cute Lucky Stars. Much better for my weight and certainly as cozy.

Een nieuw idee / A new idea

Mijn handen jeuken. Binnenkort ga ik materiaal halen om een nieuw graveerproject te starten. Ik ben van plan om een vaas te graveren met een afbeelding van Ganesha, de hindoegod met het olifanten hoofd. Ik ben zo benieuwd hoe dit zal gaan worden. Het zal denk ik een prachtig windlicht worden, bodempje zand er in, dikke stompkaars er in en het kan zo op tafel.

My hands are itching. Soon I wil go to the store and get some material to start a new engraving project. I am planning to engrave a vase with an image of Ganesh, the hindu god with the elephant head. I am anxious to see how the vase will turn out. It will probably be a gorgeous windlight, some colored sand, then add a thick candle and it will be ready to put on the table.
